Letter from the editor

The bookends of the year-end holiday shopping season have become fluid. No longer is Black Friday the definitive season opener. Indeed, some merchants say the hullabaloo now begins with Halloween. One thing remains true, however: the season remains the busiest time for countless retailers, and their performance during this period can determine whether or not they'll turn a profit for the entire year.

In this issue, before the season is in full swing, we're publishing the second portion of insights from The Green Sheet Advisory Board on partnership practices, best solutions old and new, and last minute tweaks before the holiday crush. And for a little seasonal fun, one of our contributors took inspiration from witches, ghosts and ghouls to discuss several scream-worthy topics for merchant level salespeople, along with tips on how to deal with worrisome situations.

Other contributors delve into such topics as the advent of EMV network tokens and their potential security advantages, the stunning transformation of ATMs from dispensers to full-service financial centers on display at NAC 2022, several ways that payment processors can serve as allies to the growing Hispanic-owned merchant segment; and how, when pursuing your payments ventures, it can be beneficial to take time for reflection.

We've covered a range of stories in our breaking news stories. Highlighted herein are: a new report from Sift that revealed details on the emergence of a new scam in which cybercriminals collaborate to liquidate bank accounts through cryptocurrency exchanges and connected wallets that have been ignored amid the "crypto winter"; the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics, awarded by the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences, which reflects growing interest in quantum technology applications in science and business, including public key infrastructure; a push on the part of Senator Richard Durbin, D-Ill., and Senator Roger Marshall, R-Kan., to put proposed new credit card routing rules on the legislative fast track; the launch of a Web3 platform designed to make entertainment purchases more accessible while mitigating ticket scalping and fraud.

Our new product and company profiles shine a light on a solution for simplified, always-on, end-to-end internet connectivity; a flexible, scalable platform for gift card programs; and fintech infrastructure and insights on a global scale. We've also included updates on milestones in our industry. If you'd like your company's news included in our updates, please send a press release to press@greensheet.com.
