Readers Speak: Hats off to Austin Mac Nab

Uproar's Laurel Pierce recently shared a compelling story about Austin Mac Nab, who heads VizyPay, a West Des Moines, Iowa-based payment processing company focused primarily on small to midsize businesses. Noting that May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Pierce said that Mac Nab is a notable member of this community. Here's some of what she had to say:

"I work with Austin Mac Nab, co-founder and CEO of VizyPay, a leading payment processing company. Mac Nab grew up with his mother, an immigrant from Vietnam, and emotionally abusive step-father. From a young age, Austin found every way he could to help provide for his family, from pushing his lawn mower from house to house, to selling his mother's egg rolls. Every penny went back to his mom, and this laid the foundation for his work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.

"When reflecting on his early experiences, Mac Nab said, 'It was always about survival; it wasn't about making extra spending money. At that age I didn't know the meaning of money, but I knew that we desperately needed it.'

"In 2017, Mac Nab helped found VizyPay, a payments industry company that has seen immense growth in just three years. Under his leadership, VizyPay has more than tripled its number of employees, and introduced the Cash Discount Program – which has saved its clients more than $8 million to date.

"When asked about his high expectations and work ethic, he said, 'Excuses don't fly with me, because I could have used every excuse in the book not to succeed: a rough home life, no money, etc., but I didn't'   "And it's his work-ethic that helped get him to where he is today, creating a successful, transparent business that treats employees and clients like family."
