As we wrap up this issue amid the escalating COVID-19 pandemic, the usual kinds of things we would say about the articles and resources we've prepared for you don't seem adequate. It's not business as usual as casualties mount and millions of Americans are sheltering in place. Sure, this epidemic will pass, and most of those who contract the disease will recover fully. Our economy will also recover from whatever damage this crisis inflicts. But still. It's a nail biter. We do not know what next month, or even next week will bring. However, we do take comfort in the wisdom members of The Green Sheet Advisory Board shared for publication in this issue's lead article.
One key point is that no individual, company, government agency or philanthropic organization can solve the many challenges this pandemic has brought. However, we can all make a positive difference in our own spheres in our own ways. We, at The Green Sheet, will continue to offer advice from experts about resources available during this crisis and how to effectively address whatever challenges arise. And we'll continue to provide sound business insights of particular interest to you, the resilient professionals working in the payments sphere.
One resource is The Merchant Sales Podcast. By the time you read this, a new episode on government resources available to help businesses and workers through the pandemic will be available at www.greensheet.com/podcasts.php. And in this issue you'll find perspectives and experiences shared by contributing writers on how QSAs can conduct reliable, remote assessments; bright spots amid upheaval such as online food ordering and contactless payments; proven, evergreen ways to build a thriving ISO; the potential demise of dedicated payment hardware; smart ways to retain merchants by addressing interchange hikes head on; working with community banks in a era of disruption; and what's in store for Street SmartsSM in the coming year.
News stories highlighted herein cover travel and tourism businesses bracing for a chargeback deluge; a declaration that ATMs are critical infrastructure and safety guidelines for their use; tech leaders bringing resources and hope to SMBs; Square's approval to open an industrial loan company in Utah; and the $2.2 trillion stimulus package, which offers help to ISOs, MLSs and merchants. You'll also find our usual profiles, product stories and updates on company and individual milestones. Please stay safe and continue to keep in touch at greensheet@greensheet.com.
