Stand out with AI-powered, voice-driven handheld POS devices
Global Payments Inc. introduced an AI-first Genius handheld POS device designed to support restaurants and other frontline businesses with voice-driven ordering, mobile payments and AI-enabled operational tools.
The ultra-thin handheld combines rugged construction with advanced computing power intended to support AI-driven workflows directly on the device. According to the company, the handheld's neural processing capability allows AI features to run locally rather than relying entirely on cloud processing, helping support faster response times and improved reliability.
Powerful, next-generation features
Among the device's most prominent features is AI-powered voice ordering technology designed to let servers carry on natural conversations with customers while the POS system builds tickets in the background, even in noisy restaurant environments. Global Payments said the functionality is intended to reduce the stress associated with recording orders while allowing staff to spend more time engaging with guests.
Additional AI-enabled capabilities include real-time upsell prompts and natural-language commands for tasks such as updating pricing and menus.
"We designed a next-generation handheld, purpose built with advanced hardware and intelligent software to power the next evolution of AI-driven commerce for restaurants," David Rumph, president of SMB for Global Payments, said in a statement. Adaptable to multiple situations The device is designed for use across multiple environments, including table service, line busting, food trucks and pop-up retail operations. Other features include built-in microphones for voice-driven workflows, 5G connectivity, offline payment capability, EMV and NFC support, USB-C fast charging, and a smartphone-style user interface intended to simplify onboarding for seasonal staff.
Global Payments also unveiled new Genius self-service kiosk configurations that extend the company's POS and business management platform into self-ordering environments. The kiosks feature shared platform architecture and payments infrastructure across the Genius product portfolio and will be offered in multiple mounting configurations and display sizes.
