If
ISOs think that they don’t have to know something about e-commerce when
talking to merchants, they have another thing coming. More and more in
today’s sales world people are selling the Net and e-commerce. Not just
e-commerce, but business-to-business e-commerce (see cover story). B2B
e-commerce is where the action (and the money) is. To increase your sales
and fine tune your pitch try offering merchants the chance to show their
products on the Net. The ability for an ISO to give a merchant this kind
of exposure is a great sell and many large companies are doing it. For
example First Data Corporation designs, hosts, and creates a functional
merchant site while at the same time offering financial services. It’s
not just the big companies offering this add-on, small organizations such
as EpayInternet- www.epayinternet.com
and Cart Manager- www.cartmanager.com
offer these services as well. Visit their sites and check out their take
on selling to merchants.
Also, if you are going to delve
into the realm of hosting and designing merchant sites, you must know what
you are doing. Just considering doing this means that you should hire
someone that is experienced in this business. You may even have to hire a
few people and have a team of Web knowledgeable people on hand. Of course,
there are expenses but there are also rewards. Staying on top of the
trends of our technology means you are a step ahead of all the others.
