Another
reason for check guarantee. . .
If your merchants tell you
they don’t need check guarantee because they “know all my customers”
and “trust my clientele” tell them that everyone gets bad checks, even
the Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts in DuPage County, Illinois are going
after thin-mint aficionados who bounced more than $1,700 in checks. The
scouts have filed seven small claims lawsuits and another seven or eight
are on the way, according to their attorney.
All the checks that bounced
this year were for more than $100, and some were for nearly $500.
Unfortunately, this year is no different than previous years as the DuPage
scouts average about 50 NSF checks for each cookie drive.
The scouts first contact
the check-writers, who usually make good on the check. If that doesn’t
work, they file suit and seek triple damages and court costs, as well as
the check’s value. That could add up to some pretty expensive cookies.
