Empower and connect iPad POS

Product: SteadyLAN
Company: Star Micronics Co. Ltd.

Star Micronics, a leading global manufacturer of mobile, POS and customer engagement technologies, launched SteadyLAN, a solution designed to provide power and network access to iPad POS systems. The solution is compatible with select mC-Print Series printers. It connects networked printers to Ethernet service using a lightning cable, keeping iPad POS systems continuously connected and productive, according to company representatives.

"We're incredibly proud to announce SteadyLAN, as it will make unstable Wi-Fi signals a thing of the past," said Jon Levin, director of product management at Star Micronics. "We expect this new solution to greatly improve business operations in retail and restaurant POS settings, mobile ordering and more."

Levin noted that SteadyLAN uses patent-pending technology to stabilize Wi-Fi signals and give merchants greater control, flexibility and access to networked printers and connected peripherals. The solution requires iOS10 or higher operating systems and works on Star Micronics' mCollection printer series, he stated.

Always on, always connected

SteadyLAN's new iOS technology provides the stability of cabled LAN connections for tablet POS systems, Levin stated. The solution provides direct cabled control of the printer and attached peripherals, as well as Ethernet provision to the tablet, from the printer's wired Ethernet port. This enables iPad POS systems to communicate with printers by cable or local access networks as well as take a power charge directly from the printer.

By connecting the SteadyLAN-compatible printer to the internet via wired LAN and connecting the printer and an iPad with a Lightning-USB cable, the iPad can use the internet without Wi-Fi communication. At the same time, the iPad can communicate with the printer via Lightning or LAN and can be charged from the printer. The technology is especially valuable in merchant locations where Wi-Fi connectivity is not possible or is unreliable, Levin stated.

Three printer options

Star Micronics' portfolio of thermal, impact, mobile and multifunction POS printers is compatible with a wide variety of applications, including POS, retail, kiosks, restaurants, hospitality and bar code/labeling. Star's printer models are available with serial, parallel, USB, powered USB, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and WLAN interfaces.

Star Micronic's mCollection printers are designed to be chic, compact and consistent to allow for a unified look in any business environment. Peripherals available for the mCollection include 3 mG-Scales, 1D and 2D scanners, cash drawers, line displays, and kitchen buzzers.

SteadyLAN is available on the following mCollection models:

  • mCP21LB, the mC-Print2, Star Micronic's smallest desktop printer, is designed to conserve counter space.
  • mCP31L, the mC-Print3 three-inch thermal POS printer provides an IPX2-rated splash-proof design and front-loading paper roll
  • mCP21LB, the mC-Print3 is a three-inch POS printer with IPX2-rated splash-proof design, front-loading paper roll and multiple connectivity options, including USB, Lightning, Bluetooth, LAN, and CloudPRNT/WebPRNT.
