Mobile minus the dongle
"Disruptor" is a trendy catch word this year because new technologies and products change the landscape as we know it. Each time our industry takes a new direction, there are naysayers. However, a relevant quote floating around the Internet is: "When something goes wrong in your life, just yell 'plot twist' and move on." This sums up our industry.
One of the more visible disruptors has been Square Inc. This company's tiny box has caused headaches for many in our industry. But it also has spurred new ideas for micro payments in the mobile world.
Take, for instance, Flint+ from Flint Mobile Inc. The Flint+ offering is an extension of Flint Mobile's application and enables mobile businesses to accept credit cards by scanning card numbers instead of relying on additional external card reader hardware.
Supported by Fidano LLC, it is a mobile payment platform for small mobile businesses that operate outside of typical storefronts. The program allows ISOs and merchant level salespeople to easily offer mobile payment solutions to their merchants and customers through a self-service, customizable registration portal.
"We are excited to team up with Fidano in order to enable hundreds of local financial services providers to participate in the trend toward mobile payments," said Greg Goldfarb, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Flint Mobile. "These channels have a history of providing trusted services to small businesses nationwide, and we're committed to their success."
Flint+ features and benefits include:
- Ease of use (no extra hardware required)
- Low transaction fees (1.95 percent for debit and 2.95 percent for credit)
- Customer management tools
- Social marketing capabilities
- Security (data is protected according to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard guidelines; Flint has also developed patent pending methods to protect consumer privacy)
Fidano CEO Thomas Nitopi stated, "There is no external card reader, no waiting for days for a reader to turn up in the mail, no more frustration of swiping a card multiple times before it reads, or having to pay a higher rate because you had to enter the number manually. It's all integrated and completely swipe-free."
