reported on a number of large bank mergers in the past year, and this
issue is no different. Fleet Financial Group Inc., will acquire
BankBoston Corp. The resulting organization will be the
nationís eight-largest bank.
This deal comes on
the heals of the merger between Citicorp and Travelers Group, Inc.,
and the merger of NationsBank Corp., and BankAmerica Corp., which
created the nationís largest and second-largest
banks.
Details of the
merger were not disclosed.
