As we move into 1999 we once again take a look at the "ISOs Looking for Agents" section of the The Green Sheetís Resource Guide. Each year we are surprised by the changes in this list, and this year is clearly no exception.

 

The Green Sheet continues to receive requests from new and experienced sales professionals each year asking us for our recommendation as to who they should call to get going in the business, or to find an organization that they hope will be better than the one they currently represent. As you know, we print many of these requests each year, and we continue to provide the following list as an answer to this and the often-asked questions below:

1. Does everyone listed have a package of materials or something in writing that the requester can read which explains the benefits of that particular program?

2. Do any of the organizations provide access to more than one bankcard program?

3. Who are the banks they represent?

4. What are the other services or products that the organization will provide to the requester?

5. How do they differ from one another?

6. Who has the best buy rate?

We note this year that the buy rates for those organizations who wished to share them range from a low of 1.39% and 18 cents a transaction to 1.59% and 20 cents, about a ten percent spread in rate, for a $100.00 ticket. Of course, the buy rate includes much more than the discount rate and item fee, with the best example being that a 1.49% and 19 cents is better than a 1.47% and 16 cents, when the higher rate has no monthly minimum or statement fee, and the lower has both.
