Philly
ATMs
Consumers have long been
fed up with ATM fees but now government officials have had enough, as
well. For example, a Philadelphia councilman has drafted a bill which
requires the city to use only banks who don't charge ATM service
fees. The banks, of course, are against the bill.
Sounds like a good idea,
right? The city could save the $1.6 million in fees it currently pays
Philly's four biggest banks. The only problem is, there might not be
another bank that can handle Philly's one million checks per year and
400,000 payments per month. Since there are only three banks in the
entire state that do not charge fees and are still big enough to
handle the business, the city may have to use a bank outside the City
of Brotherly Love.
