Did You Know?
Are you aware of how much money the American public owes for
credit transactions, and who they owe it to? The following chart
provides the receivable balances for Visa, the leader, followed by
MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. You may find it
interesting that while American Express holds nearly 16% of the
dollar volume in the U.S. market, they have less than 3% of the
receivable balance, due to their "due upon receipt policy" and recent
entry into the true credit marketplace.
It is also worth noting that the greatest difference between
market share and receivable balance goes to MasterCard, with a 26.4%
market position, yet with a 34.6% portion of the credit card
receivable balance.
