Cash Technologies Receives Patent Approval

C ash Technologies Inc. has received approval from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its E-commerce Message Management Architecture (EMMA) patent.

This is the last step before the final issuance of the patent. The patent application, originally filed in 1998, covers the methods by which EMMA delivers complex financial and information services to self-service and remote devices such as ATMs and the Web.

Through the EMMA transaction processing software, consumers and businesses can access a variety of financial services via ATMs, POS terminals and the Internet. Check cashing, electronic bill payment, event ticketing, interactive advertising, cash dispensing, Internet-based products and other functions will be offered at retail locations and ATMs using a variety of payment methods, including ATM cards, credit cards, checks and cash.

"We believe that our technology provides the fastest, most cost-effective and user-friendly techniques for conducting these transactions," says Bruce Korman, CEO of Cash Technologies. "Unlike existing data-processing systems which must be redesigned or replaced to support any added services, EMMA provides a new language for e-commerce transactions that permits the rapid deployment of new applications with minimal effort."

The announcement comes on the heels of a software licensing and gateway agreement between Cash Technologies and Premier Processing Alliance. Under the agreement, Cash Tech will gateway all of Premier's nearly 1 million transactions per month. In addition, Cash Tech's EMMA system will enable Premier's 2,500 managed sites to take advantage of value-added applications such as check cashing, bill payment, Internet applications and other advanced services.
