The cryptocurrency realm has been roiled by corporate and bank failures, threats of legislative and regulatory actions, and plummeting values. Yet two recent reports reached differing conclusions on whether the "crypto winter" is thawing or whether the deep chill will remain. According to a survey by financial technology firm Paxos, 75 percent of consumers interviewed remain confident about the future of crypto. Pew Research Center, on the other hand, found that among adult Americans who have heard of cryptocurrency, 75 percent are not confident in its safety and reliability.
It seemed that digging deeper in the crypto and digital assets ecosystem to ascertain whether recent failures have been a wake-up call, identify the root causes of recent failures, explore how regulation might help and hinder future progress, and determine potential impacts if innovation moves offshore.
