We want to thank Denise Gee, Findexablde's managing director, for sending us this note about an upcoming survey on diversity in the fintech sphere. It's focused on women in the industry.
"If women are better at saving, if female businesses perform better and if women control the vast majority of discretionary spending, why are fintechs not clambering to know what's important for the world's fastest growing market?" Gee wrote. "And if fintech teams don't work alongside them, know the sex of their customers or understand their preferences and spending habits, what are growth strategies based on?
"In August we brought together a group of partners to ask just this, and up came the data question, "Do we know how fintech is doing on gender diversity, and what the potential impact of women can be on scaling their business and more broadly on the digital economy?"
"The very area that fintech essentially owns, and therefore shapes. The argument being, if we measure and monitor, we can move the bar from wherever the benchmark is to 'better.' And what might better even look like, and who gets it right.
"Four months later we are welcoming our first sponsors (findexable.com/diversity-radar-sponsors) together with a global network of Champions, Partners, Ambassadors and a Data Task Force (https://findexable.com/diversity-radar-team/#data-task-force) to guarantee standards and rigour.
"Soon we will launch a survey of privately owned fintechs, carrying out qualitative research among large financial institutions and publicly listed payment firms. We need your input to produce, not only another report, but a scorecard and real-time platform that will help the fintech ecosystem to understand the opportunities of the female economy and how more diverse teams can play a role in fintech success and growth.
