Product: PD40
Company: Zebra Technologies Corp.
The Zebra PD40 hand-held mobile payment solution is designed to seamlessly blend with retail environments and to safely and securely facilitate all types of in-store, mobile payments, including mag-stripe and EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) chip card transactions. The Payment Card Industry-compliant, EMV Level 1 peripheral can instantly pair with all of Zebra's Android mobile computers via secure Bluetooth technology, expediting in-store checkouts and enhancing the consumer shopping journey, the company noted.
Zebra acquired Motorola Solutions' Enterprise Business in October 2014 to leverage the combined expertise of both companies. Kathy Crumley, Zebra's Global Payment Solutions Manager, said that as the "trusted enterprise mobility partner" of the retail ecosystem, Zebra helps retailers manage "warehouse, supply chain, consumer data and connected mobile devices."
PD40's modular structure was devised to adapt easily to a diversity of retail settings. Its two-piece solution pairs the peripheral with a remote host computer via a secure Bluetooth connection to enable in-store payments. Its one-handed solution attaches to the unique adaptor skin of a Zebra handheld computer; the device can be easily detached from the skin and handed to a consumer for privacy during payment card use and PIN entry. And the PD40 permanent, one-handed solution sports a jammer block between the computer and peripheral, which renders the solution immovable.
Zebra also pointed out that software developers can create a single HTML5 payment application that's compatible with any Zebra operating system or device with the EMDK tool kit. A built-in software library enables integration of receipt delivery options including print, email and text receipts. Retailers can also use these tools to track customer data such as mobile phone numbers and email addresses. A built-in mobile device management application provides a single access view to mobile devices across an entire retail enterprise. Retailers can manage host computers, connected peripherals and payment applications within Zebra's secure environment.
