U.S. federal, state and local governments; law enforcement agencies; medical response teams; firefighters; relief agencies; nonprofit organizations; and countless individual volunteers are at this very moment contributing resources to emergency relief and disaster recovery efforts in areas devastated by hurricanes in Texas, Florida, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico; firestorms in California; as well as a recent a deadly attack on concert-goers in Las Vegas.

Amid these tragedies, many payment companies are donating to humanitarian efforts while also helping merchants hit by disaster get back up and running and prepare for what we all hope will be a bustling and profitable year-end holiday season marked by generosity and kindness.

This issue's lead article contains insights shared by several members of The Green Sheet Advisory Board on key issues for merchants, ISOs and MLSs in the lead up to this holiday season, along with what folks are doing to help merchants thrive in an increasingly complex and changing shopping environment. Industry experts have also contributed informative articles on a range of compelling topics, including how to decide what multiples to pay out during a residual sale; an effective plan for cross-selling to merchants; guidelines for working with creative people; how to make merchants love you instead of bringing lawsuits against you; and what to do if regulators inquire about activities they believe might qualify you as a money transmitter or money service business.

We've also prepared company and product profiles, highlights from news posted recently at www.greensheet.com/breakingnews.php?flag=previous_breaking_news, and brief items on the latest milestones in our realm, such as appointments, honors, settlements, initiatives, partnerships, acquisitions, research and more.

As of press time, The Green Sheet Inc. is surrounded by unprecedented destruction wrought by several fires burning in the San Francisco Bay Area's North Bay, where our offices and several staff members' homes are located. We remain safe, with houses intact thus far, but we learned that some members of the Petaluma-Calif.-based CrossCheck team lost their homes to the flames. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. With them and other victims in mind, we hope you will devote some of your holiday spending to a charity of your choice.
