Accelerate time-to-market with hosted mobile DevOps

Product: DevOps Platform
Company: Bitrise

Bitrise, a mobile development operations company, created a platform designed to help companies maximize the business impact of their mobile apps. The company stated that more than 6,000 businesses have used the platform to create and improve mobile applications, and that working with Bitrise has helped these organizations get their apps to market faster and improve security while keeping up with constantly changing mobile requirements.

Participating companies, including WISE, Virgin Mobile, Grindr, Tag Heuer, Compass, Mozilla, Phelps Hue and Neo Financial, have claimed that Bitrise has helped them automate testing, accelerate build times, and understand how new pieces of code will affect live apps. The Y Combinator company, headquartered in Budapest, has offices in London, San Francisco, Boston and Osaka.

Transforming Canadian banking

Barnabás Birmacher, CEO of Bitrise, mentioned that Neo, a Canadian neobank, recently partnered with Bitrise to bring banking outside of brick-and-mortar confines and onto consumer-friendly platforms. "A mobile app is no longer just an accessory for banks," he said. "In order to succeed, mobile needs to become a prominent aspect of banks' business models. Neo's success shows that when development is handled efficiently, mobile has the power to transform the banking industry."

Birmacher further noted that five major incumbent financial institutions have dominated Canada's banking landscape for hundreds of years. These legacy banks have been slow to digitize and introduce new capabilities, which created a void between Canada's financial offerings and the evolving demands of today's mobile consumer, he added.

Through its collaboration with Bitrise, Birmacher noted, Neo was able to bridge this gap while addressing features like account security, easy-to-understand transaction details, and credit score monitoring that Canadians consider most valuable in a mobile banking experience. Through its partnership with Bitrise and its second generation GEN2 machines, Neo enhanced its mobile development and release processes and increased the app's frequency of feature releases and app updates to a weekly cadence, he added.

Improved efficiencies, time to market

Kris Read, co-founder and CTO at Neo Financial, agreed that partnering with Bitrise has helped Neo expedite new product rollouts and attract investors. In addition, he stated, it has helped the company automate vital stages of the app development lifecycle, such as security checks and testing to prevent bugs and expedite delivery of new features.

"Reimagining the way Canadians bank is no small undertaking, and our partnership with Bitrise has enabled our team to not only accelerate our mobile development and release time, but focus our resources on building innovative products and features for all Canadians," Read said.

Pointing out that improved time to market can be a key differentiator in today's crowded fintech market, Read commented that Neo's engineering team harnessed Bitrise's automation to expand its mobile app's products and features beyond standard banking and savings offerings. For example, he noted, Neo developers incorporated buy now, pay later options for consumers and businesses, a managed investment experience and online mortgage product with renewal and refinancing options into the Neo mobile app.

End-to-end support

Bitrise representatives mentioned that the company's hosted DevOps platform supports users through every stage of mobile application development, from developing and building, through testing and deployment, to new releases and optimization. Companies can leverage these capabilities to decrease build times, speed up releases and deploy mobile apps with confidence, they added.

By using Bitrise's build machines and Bitrise Build Cache, companies can develop and enhance mobile apps significantly faster than by working with conventional continuous integration (CI) workflows, Bitrise representatives stated, noting the platform's collocated build workers and remote caches can eliminate network latency to ensure streamlined access to cached data and agile build speeds. end of article
