It's not surprising the multifaceted payments sphere is exhibiting uncommon resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even during less stressful times, success in payments requires initiative, creativity and the ability to adapt rapidly to ever changing conditions. So staying strong in these times has been a matter of being able to apply well-honed skills to the situation at hand.
To shine a light on exactly how leaders in our industry are charting a path forward, this issue's lead article shares perspectives from members of The Green Sheet Advisory Board on how they are balancing safety and economic needs for their own companies, their merchants and partners, and the wider community. They also weigh in on guiding lights the payments community can keep in mind as we move through the current crisis and beyond.
In our Education and Views sections, industry expert contributors also provide useful insights for payments pros during these times. Topics explored include how to provide merchants with transformational solutions, which are critically needed during the pandemic; how the new normal of social distancing is leading to new ways to connect; a reminder that we can all choose between taking responsibility for our own results or live in the land of excuses for why we can't have the life we want; and legal lessons learned from the stunning fall of Wirecard.
News briefs herein highlight some of the stories we've covered recently, including developments in the DeFI Money Market, a global community focused on blockchain that believes future commerce will be bankless; the impact across the payments sphere of the Wirecard bankruptcy; actions taken against certain merchant cash advance providers by the Federal Trade Commission and the New York State Attorney General; a boycott of Facebook by a group of advertisers, the NAACP and the Anti-Defamation League, which object to Facebook's policies on civil rights, consumer privacy, factual news and targeted hate speech; and a rash of account takeovers that has resulted in a flood of stolen credentials on the dark web.
Rounding out the issue are briefs on new developments in several areas of the industry, product and company profiles, words of inspiration, and the Resource Guide, which is chock-full of potential partners and service providers you might want to check out.
