Cypress, Calif.-based International Technologies and Systems Corp., dba: ID TECH, a global technology and manufacturing firm founded in 1985, added the VP3300 to its line of ViVOpay payment card readers. The triple-track, bi-directional, all-in-one reader is designed to support magnetic stripe, as well as contact and contactless EMV (Europay, Mastercard and Visa) payments inside a small footprint, the company stated.
"The ViVOpay 3300 product family is a key addition to ID TECH's existing array of NFC capable devices," stated Ginger Wu, the company's Product Manager. Wu said the VP3300 uses the most advanced security standards and latest Bluetooth technology. Its near field communication (NFC) reader supports most mobile wallet and contactless payment schemes, including Android Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Mastercard PayPass, Visa VCPS, American Express ExpressPay and Discover D-PAS payment acceptance.
Wu additionally noted the versatile product will "fit like a glove" in retail, OEM and unattended environments. Software developers and merchants can use ID TECH's universal software development kit to integrate the VP3300 into a variety of cross-platform, cross-technology solutions in iOS, Android and Windows environments, she added.
The VP3300 uses the USB port to recharge and communicate with host devices. This helps to extend the battery life of the VP3300 and ancillary, connected host devices by minimizing energy consumption. In addition to the standard USB interface, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy and audio jack interfaces are available, company representatives noted.
The VP3300 has an EMV L2 kernel to simplify integration and EMV certifications. "Contactless certifications can be costly and time consuming; our fully certified ViVOpay application is widely used around the world in a variety of payment and nonpayment applications," said Chao Yin, Product Manager, Mobile Payment Devices at ID TECH. The company also noted the VP3300 is contact and contactless EMV Level 1 and Level 2 approved and uses DUKPT key management with Triple DES and AES encryption to fully encrypt magnetic stripe, smart card, and contactless payment transactions at card entry and securely transmit them to the host device.
VP3300 can be embedded into tablet sleeves for mobile POS environments or mounted on display stands for countertop applications. Its small footprint and versatile design make it adaptable to numerous retail and hospitality environments and applications, including tabletop applications that support mobile payment schemes and high-volume, low-value theatrical and sporting venues where transaction speed is critical, ID TECH stated.
"Contactless transactions take an average of 1 to 2 seconds to process, compared to 5-to-10 second magnetic stripe and 15-to-20 second contact EMV transactions, which can boost traffic at concession stands during high peak intermission times," Yin said. "At sports stadiums where tens of thousands of people gather and rush to the food courts during breaks, shaving a few seconds off a transaction can make a huge difference."

Yin has seen growing implementation of contactless applications in the self-service, unattended sector in airports and other public venues and expects the trend to continue due to growing consumer adoption of mobile payment technology. "From a product manager perspective, there is broad potential for mobile readers in many value-added solutions, beyond just payment transactions, such as loyalty, membership programs and access control," he stated.
ID TECH representatives said the company has extensive experience in designing and manufacturing data capture and encryption technology and routinely provides branded, customized solutions to meet customer requirements.
