Readers Speak: Should I contact influencers?

I've been working as an agent for a year or so and doing well enough that I've decided starting up my own ISO, a sub-ISO, would be a good next step. In thinking about marketing as I ramp up for rollout, I'm wondering how useful influencer marketing might be for me and whether it might be affordable for a brand new business like mine. I don't notice that much talk about it within the industry.

Rosemary,

Partnering with individuals or organizations with a significant following or influence within the payments industry, your targeted niche market or your local community could increase awareness of your new endeavor, build credibility and ultimately drive sales.

To make it work, you'll need to identify influencers who have a strong following in the areas you want to reach. These could be industry experts, bloggers or social media personalities with a significant presence within payments and fintech circles, or, say, food services if you're targeting that vertical, or prominent merchants in your local community. Once you've identified the best matches for you, it's time to build relationships, and then provide them with relevant information and resources about your products or services, and develop a strategy to work together to create content that resonates with their audience.

One way to find potential matches is to check social media platforms like LinkedIn and Twitter using relevant keywords and hashtags. You can also search for relevant blogs and websites and reach out to the authors or editors to see if they're interested in partnering with your business.

Another approach is to work with influencer marketing platforms or agencies that specialize in connecting businesses with influencers. These platforms and agencies typically have a database of influencers in different industries and can help you find the right influencers based on your target audience, budget and campaign goals.

Thanks for your question, and good luck to you in your new venture.
