It is often helpful to take a look at major developments in payments over time, as well as available data associated with them, and then assess what these might mean for our future. There's no doubt the payments landscape has transformed dramatically over the past decade, causing some upheaval while creating whole new areas of opportunity. This issue's lead article examines what has occurred over the last 10 years, realizing one constant in our industry, as in life itself, is change. The article delves into areas where change has opened up opportunities in our realm, in particular, mobile, contactless and P2P payments.

Another constant for payments professionals is the need to master business basics, and contributing writers featured herein give tips on how to do just that, along with gaining the requisite industry knowledge and experience to launch and maintain an ISO venture. Other experts discuss the major benefits of bringing more applications to merchants without adding layers of complexity for merchants and their solution providers; why #openbanking and #neobank represent a current transformation in banking and what's important to these new financial services providers; how ISOs and merchant level salespeople can help merchants become more comfortable with technology; and the preemptive move on the part of an ISO that grew fed up with being bullied by the Federal Trade Commission.

We post breaking news stories regularly on our home page, www.greensheet.com. Stories highlighted herein include Oklahoma's overturning of a ban on surcharging; an expected increase in IoT-based cyberattacks in 2020; new Fed data pointing toward soaring card transactions; the role cross-channel shopping played in year-end holiday shopping; and a new study indicating environmental consciousness tops price for a growing number of consumers.

In profiles you'll read about a company dedicated to accelerating integrated payments while building strong relationships; a solution that offers secure, hardware-free PIN entry on mobiles; and an integrated pay-at-table solution designed to optimize functionality while also being affordable for SMBs. You'll also see updates on recent milestones, relevant research, compelling partnerships and acquisitions, and appointments of new leaders in our realm.

We hope the insights and information in this issue help empower you as 2020 gets into full swing.
