Cordant Emerges From Stealth With $8 Million Seed Round as the Command Center for Financial Infrastructure

Former Rapyd leaders launch Cordant, a real-time command center that unifies and analyzes operational and system data to enable proactive decisions in real time.

Motive Partners and Oak HC/FT co-lead the round; Bitso and Paxos join as investors and design partners.

The platform arrives as banks, payment firms and fintechs push to harness AI within controlled and highly regulated environments.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cordant today emerged from stealth with $8 million in seed funding co-led by Motive Partners and Oak HC/FT. Cordant is a command center for payments companies, fintechs and banks operating across fragmented financial infrastructure. The platform ingests signals from payment rails, bank accounts, ledgers, compliance and risk systems, and normalizes them into a shared event model. It gives teams one view of what is happening across their operating environment, why it is happening and whether activity aligns with intended outcomes.

Cordant does this without moving or holding funds, replacing core systems or requiring institutions to centralize their data. Instead, it gives teams across payment operations, compliance and risk, treasury and audit departments a shared way to oversee complex workflows, coordinate decisions and maintain an auditable record. That visibility and control become especially important as institutions look to deploy AI inside of a regulated bank or non-bank’s operating environment.

Payment issues often occur in the handoffs between partner systems. A transaction moves through a series of steps, from initiation and settlement to funding, reconciliation and, sometimes, reversal. Each system records only part of the full story. When a transaction is delayed, fails or raises a compliance question, operations teams are left piecing together logs, reports and partner responses to understand what happened and where the records stopped matching.

Cordant normalizes transaction data across systems, detects control gaps and contradictions, coordinated exception workflows, and produces audit-grade evidence of how a transaction moved, who acted and what controls were applied.

"Money moves in real time, but understanding where a transaction went, which systems and partner acted, who authorized it and whether the records agree still depends on weekly and monthly reporting," said Eric Rosenthal, CEO and co-founder of Cordant. "We built the layer that was missing; one that shows how a transaction moved across all the systems involved or where the hand-off across systems and teams breaks down. That is the gap Cordant closes."

Built for increasingly fragmented financial infrastructure

Real-time payment networks, stablecoins, digital assets and AI-enabled workflows are adding more rails, counterparties and controls to systems that were never designed to share context. Each new system can introduce another set of data, rules and blind spots, particularly when a workflow crosses organizational boundaries among banks, fintechs, custodians and other partners.

That need only grows as financial institutions introduce AI into regulated workflows. Before a process can be automated responsibly, institutions must be able to observe it, explain it and govern it.

"Everyone wants to put AI into payments and back-office workflows," Rosenthal said. "But institutions cannot automate responsibly if they cannot see or explain it. Context has to come before automation."

Developed with 11 design partners

Cordant is developing the platform with 11 design partners across banking, payments, embedded finance, cross-border transactions, stablecoins and digital assets. Although they operate in different parts of financial services, they face the same problem: no single system shows how money moved across the full operating environment.

Bitso and Paxos, both investors in Cordant, are among the design partners. Bitso operates a digital asset and cross-border payments platform in Latin America, while Paxos provides regulated blockchain and stablecoin infrastructure.

"Bitso is building hybrid finance, bringing traditional and digital money into one system. Moving money across all of that is hard, and even with strong tooling of our own, the next hard problem is seeing the full route a payment takes and whether each step honors the rules meant to govern it," said Imran Ahmad, COO at Bitso. "We're working with Cordant as a design partner because hybrid finance needs a coordination layer between separate systems of record and the rules that govern them. We're starting with financial systems and see an opportunity for that same layer to extend across compliance and partner infrastructure.”

"Anyone who's run security and operations at scale knows the real cost sits in the unhappy path where there are break-glass procedures and engineers pulled into production to trace a stuck payment,” said Dave Schwed from OpenReserve. “We're partnering with Cordant to help design what a governed command center for financial operations should look like. By creating a system with permissioned view across systems, context, controls, and the audit trail to resolve issues without expanding who can touch production, we can create the kind of control the whole industry has been missing.”

"The future of B2B payments will be defined by trust at scale,” said Chris Fuller, president of Transcard. “Moving money is no longer the differentiator. Continuously proving that every payment program is operating within its SLAs, contractual obligations, and compliance requirements in real time is. As payment ecosystems become more complex, the industry needs a smarter, governed framework for operational assurance. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Cordant to help shape what’s next."

Founded by former Rapyd leaders

Cordant was founded by Eric Rosenthal, Lior Levitt, Sagi Ittah and Juan Jose Huezo, who previously led commercial strategy, product, engineering, sales and partner engineering at Rapyd. Together, they helped build and commercialize Rapyd's infrastructure across more than 50 countries and more than 100 partner integrations as the company scaled beyond $1 billion in revenue.

Their work required coordinating customer systems, banks, processors, compliance tools and local partners. Cordant grew out of the difficulty of understanding what had happened when those systems did not share a common view.

"At Rapyd, we saw this problem from every side," Rosenthal said. "We built the infrastructure, integrated the partners, sold it globally and made it work inside customer environments. Cordant is the system we kept needing and could not find."

That gap existed because no single vendor could see across regulated counterparties, and no institution could build that visibility without centralizing data or replacing core systems. That is the problem Cordant was built to solve.

Funding to support product development and deployments

Additional investors include Bankless VC, FJ Labs, SignalFire, Quona, Next Stage, Selah Ventures, Flatironx, Nascent Ventures, Silvercircle Ventures, and Generative Ventures.

"Every institution moving money today is stitching together a patchwork of rails, ledgers, compliance systems and rules, and the real risk almost always lives in the handoffs between these tools," said Oivind Lorentzen, partner at Oak HC/FT. "Eric and the Cordant team spent years building and scaling the infrastructure at Rapyd, so they understand firsthand where visibility breaks down and what it takes to fix it. As banks and fintechs push to integrate new rails and AI into regulated workflows, that visibility becomes the prerequisite. We're excited to partner with Cordant as they build the command center this industry has been missing.”

"Financial institutions are adding new payment rails faster than they can keep a single, trusted view across them,” said Harsh Govil, partner, venture at Motive Partners. “What gets missed is that every new rail adds another layer of operational and compliance complexity, one more system to reconcile by hand instead of trusting that a payment settled the way it was supposed to. That gap only compounds as institutions push new rails and AI into regulated workflows, and it is the gap Cordant was built to close. We backed a team that has lived this problem and is focused on solving it."

Cordant will use the funding to bring the system into production and activate its private beta clients.

About Cordant

Cordant is the command center for modern financial infrastructure. It sits above the processors, banks, ledgers, compliance systems, and payment rails financial infrastructure companies already use, giving teams one operational view across fragmented systems, including a clear, audit-grade record of activity for compliance and risk teams without replacing existing infrastructure or moving funds.

Cordant helps regulated institutions observe activity, identify risk, and coordinate decisions across fragmented systems in real time. The company was founded by operators from Rapyd who understand global financial infrastructure at scale, and is backed by Motive Partners, Oak HC/FT, and investors across financial services and digital assets.
