Current Manufacturing Index indicators mixed for October

Philadelphia, Oct. 16, 2025—Responses to the Philadelphia Fed’s October Manufacturing Business Outlook Survey suggest that manufacturing activity in the region was mixed this month. The index for current general activity fell significantly and turned negative, the shipments index declined but remained positive, and the new orders index rose. The firms continued to report overall increases in employment, and both price indexes remain elevated. The survey’s future indicators suggest widespread expectations for growth over the next six months.
