Smartstream unveils new version of Smart Reconciliations Premium – agentic AI reconciliations with GRIT – Governance, ROI, Integration and Trust

Key Facts

• Smart Reconciliations Premium delivers approximately 25% lower total cost of ownership and 50% more throughput. • Smart Agents now investigate, resolve and progress exceptions autonomously, addressing the most time-consuming task, break investigation. Every agent action is logged, explainable and subject to human accountability. • Eight reconciliation domains, from securities and cash to OTC derivatives and digital assets run on one real-time engine, connected through outbound APIs and the Model Context Protocol, with deployment measured in weeks rather than months.

London, Sept. 23, 2026—Smartstream, the trusted data solutions provider for leading global financial institutions and enterprises, today announces a new version of Smart Reconciliations Premium, introducing agentic AI that can investigate, progress and resolve reconciliation exceptions autonomously.

Settlement cycles compressed to T+1 leave no time to chase breaks across systems and inboxes, and audit expectations that rise never fall back: reconciliations must now keep pace with the market, not the month-end. AI has meanwhile reached its inflection point, and its highest returns sit in post-trade, where workflows are predictable and data-rich, yet operations leaders are being asked to deliver against flat or shrinking budgets. This new release marks the move from AI that describes to AI that acts: Smart Agents no longer surface a break for someone to work, they investigate it, act on it and close it, under centralised governance and with a full audit trail. It delivers approximately 25% lower total cost of ownership and 50% more throughput on hardware clients already own.

Thomas Steinborn, Chief Product & Technology Officer, Smartstream: “For four decades our clients have relied on us for the reconciliation truth their businesses depend on and their regulators inspect. This release puts AI underneath that foundation rather than beside it, so the platform no longer simply records and matches: it investigates, reasons, resolves, and learns, within boundaries our clients set and can evidence. That is the difference between AI that describes and AI that acts, and it is where the returns are.”

Having served top-tier banks globally for decades, processing more than 10 billion transactions a month, the release is built on four principles Smartstream describes as GRIT: Governance, ROI, Integration and Trust.

Governance: Centralised controls across AI models, workflows and permissions, with full auditability and human accountability. Models can also run within a client’s own environment for high sensitivity use cases.

ROI: Autonomous exception management, enhanced supervised machine learning and new unsupervised fuzzy matching, reducing manual investigations and improving matching efficiency.

Integration: Outbound APIs and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) enable enterprise systems and AI assistants to query data, trigger workflows and perform approved actions, with existing permissions and audit controls maintained.

Trust: Eight reconciliation domains including securities, cash, treasury, payments, general ledger, NAV, OTC derivatives and digital assets run on one real-time engine, with deployment measured in weeks rather than months.

The new version will be showcased at Sibos in Miami from 28 September to 1 October 2026.
