Sol og Strand selects Shift4 to upgrade payments, elevate guest experience

Sol og Strand selects Shift4 to upgrade payments and elevate the guest experience across its Danish holiday-home network

New payment infrastructure brings faster settlement and simpler post-stay payments, keeping the focus on the holiday experience as Sol og Strand continues to grow

London, United Kingdom - September 8, 2026 - Shift4, a global leader in integrated payments and commerce technology, has been selected by Sol og Strand, one of Denmark’s largest holiday-home rental agencies, to provide payment processing across its portfolio of more than 7,000 privately owned properties.

Founded in 1979, Sol og Strand offers holiday homes and apartments throughout Denmark, including Bornholm, Skagen, Blokhus, Blåvand and Fanø. Its properties range from smaller coastal cottages to large family properties and holiday homes with pools.

Under the partnership, Shift4 becomes Sol og Strand’s payment processing partner for online bookings, handling transactions and settlement through its payments infrastructure. By introducing T+1 settlement, Shift4 gives Sol og Strand access to funds the next business day, helping it to manage cash flow more effectively.

The arrangement is built around the specific demands of the holiday-home rental sector, including seasonal booking patterns, refunds, chargebacks, and additional payments that can arise after a guest has checked out.

This post-stay payment capability is a key part of the agreement. Where an additional amount is due under the terms of the booking – for cleaning, utilities or property damage, for example – Shift4 enables it to be charged to the card used to make the original reservation, subject to the relevant authorisation and card scheme requirements.

By moving routine payment tasks into the background, the partnership is designed to let Sol og Strand's teams focus on what guests actually come for: the holiday experience, from arrival to check-out and beyond.

Previously, these charges had to be collected through a separate invoice. The new process will reduce administration for Sol og Strand’s teams, allow balances to be collected more quickly, and give guests a simpler way to pay – so the payment side of a stay stays out of the way of the experience itself.

Jens Frandsen, Chief Financial Officer at Sol og Strand, commented: “Holiday-home rentals come with some very specific payment challenges. Booking volumes change substantially throughout the year, and there are times when an additional charge needs to be settled after a guest has returned home. We chose Shift4 because the team understood how our business works and was willing to build around what we actually need.

“Faster settlement and a simpler way to handle post-stay charges will make a real positive difference to our teams and guests. As we continue to grow, we need payment infrastructure that can grow with us, and that’s what Shift4 will provide.”

Spokesperson Ruben Nielson, Director Business Development – Nordics, at Shift4, added: “Payments should never be the thing guests remember about their stay – the holiday experience should. Travel payments are rarely as straightforward as taking the initial booking. Holiday-rental businesses must manage deposits, refunds, seasonal demand, and charges that may only become clear after a stay has ended.

“Our work with Sol og Strand is about solving those problems so the experience stays front and centre for guests. T+1 settlement will give the business faster access to its funds, while the post-stay payment capability replaces a slow, manual invoicing process. It’s a good example of how payment infrastructure can be adapted to the commercial needs of a particular sector, and we’re pleased to be working with Sol og Strand to deliver it.”

Sol og Strand joins Shift4’s growing portfolio of Nordic and European merchant partners. The partnership builds on Shift4’s work in the travel sector, combining global payments infrastructure with local expertise and commercial flexibility to support the practical requirements of travel and holiday-rental businesses – and to help ensure the guest experience is never interrupted by friction at the payment stage.
