Facilitate one-tap crypto transactions at the POS

Flexa, a provider of digital currency payments, launched a new Tap to Pay feature that enables direct cryptocurrency transactions through NFC-enabled hardware wallets—no mobile phone or internet required. This innovation makes Flexa the first platform to support blockchain payments via simple, contactless taps, Flexa stated.

Designed for in-person retail transactions, the new system allows users to pay with supported hardware wallets like Burner, which function similarly to contactless cards but sign and process crypto payments instead of traditional ones. With just a PIN entry and a tap on a Flexa-enabled POS terminal, the transaction is authorized and recorded on the blockchain—offering a fast, secure and frictionless checkout experience, the company noted.

"Flexa is resolutely dedicated to making paying with digital currency easier, safer, and faster than using a credit or debit card," said Trevor Filter, Flexa's co-founder. "By enabling the first NFC-based crypto payments directly from hardware wallets, we're providing a better, more instant way to spend digital assets on the go."

Most crypto payments today rely on smartphones and QR codes, often causing checkout delays, Flexa pointed out, adding that its Tap to Pay approach sidesteps those hurdles, streamlining the process for both users and merchants. The system debuts with support for Flexa's POS app on iPhone and Android devices, and will expand to include mobile wallets with Flexa's embedded SDK, which is designed to allow even greater flexibility and reach.

Cameron Robertson, founder and CEO of Arx Research, the company behind Burner wallets, emphasized the practical simplicity of the solution. "Burners epitomize speed and simplicity, and tap-to-pay payments at retail take that to the next level. Instead of scanning QR codes or fumbling with apps, users can just tap their Burner and go," he said.

Flexa plans to roll out broader merchant support through partner POS platforms later this year. As the first to introduce direct blockchain transactions via NFC, Flexa said it is setting a new standard for cryptocurrency usability—bringing it closer than ever to everyday retail adoption.
