Fiserv partners to amp up AI efforts

Fiserv is going all-in on artificial intelligence and agentic commerce. In a series of announcements, the payments and financial technology firm said it is collaborating with Visa and Mastercard, as well as Microsoft to accelerate AI-driven innovation.

Securing a foundation for agentic commerce

Fiserv said it is extending its partnership with Mastercard to integrate with Mastercard's secure card on file solution to act as a network token requestor on behalf of merchants and partners.

Fiserv also will adopt the Mastercard Agent Pay Acceptance Framework, which establishes a secure, scalable framework for enabling AI agents to transact on behalf of customers with tokenization, strong authentication, fraud prevention and governance. The partnership will also simplify merchant participation in agentic commerce with tools and insights to maintain control of their customer relationships while unlocking new revenue streams, Fiserv said in a statement.

"Fiserv and Mastercard are working together to establish the foundation for secure, intelligent, and interoperable agentic commerce experiences," said Sanjay Saraf, senior vice president and global chief product officer for merchant solutions at Fiserv. "Together we are enabling merchants of all sizes to confidently participate in in this new era of commerce, leveraging trusted standards and programmable payments to unlock growth."

Creating infrastructure

The collaboration with Visa, announced in tandem with the Mastercard announcement, will rely on Visa's intelligent commerce to deploy trusted agent protocol across Fiserv's interoperable agentic ecosystem. This will empower merchants to take part in the rapidly evolving world of agentic commerce, Fiserv explained.

Combining Visa's authentication and agentic commerce capabilities with Fiserv's extensive merchant network, creates the infrastructure and trust merchants require in the new era of commerce, the company explained.

"Fiserv and Visa are simplifying entry into the agentic commerce ecosystem, giving Clover and Fiserv merchants, as well as our ISV and ISO partners, the tools to capitalize on the groundbreaking experiences while fostering trust and safety," Saraf said.

Embedding AI into Fiserv platforms

The Visa and Mastercard collaborations were announced in the waning days of 2025. And on January 8 Fiserv announced a collaboration with Microsoft to further embed AI into Fiserv development platforms to boost internal productivity at FI and deliver AI-driven solutions for Fiserv clients, including financial institutions, businesses and consumers.
