Cardtronics adds to exec team

Friday, January 18, 2013 — 17:38:41 (EST)

Houston, Jan. 17, 2013 -- Cardtronics, Inc. (Nasdaq:CATM), the world's largest retail ATM owner, today announced an evolution of the company's information technology executive leadership team, featuring the introduction of a newly created Chief Information Security Officer position.

Transitioning from his current role as Chief Information Officer, Jerry Garcia, who spent the last 10 years designing and developing the information technology systems Cardtronics uses to run its business, will now focus exclusively on Cardtronics' information security program as chief information security officer (CISO). Mike McCarthy, a seasoned chief information officer (CIO) within the financial services industry, has joined Cardtronics as its new CIO. Both Garcia and McCarthy will report directly to Cardtronics Chief Executive Officer Steve Rathgaber.

"As the world's largest retail ATM owner, as the operator of a global ATM fleet approaching 63,000 machines, Cardtronics has a responsibility to its clients, consumers and our shareholders to be a model of excellence in information technology and security," said Steve Rathgaber, chief executive officer, Cardtronics. "The creation of a dedicated information security officer role emphasizes Cardtronics' commitment to industry-leading security systems, and Jerry Garcia, the architect of the IT landscape at Cardtronics, makes for an ideal candidate to exercise enterprise-wide oversight of our information security program."

Assuming Garcia's previous post, Mike McCarthy joins Cardtronics as chief information officer, taking responsibility for the company's IT infrastructure, design and implementation of high-availability IT solutions.

Biographical Highlights — Mike McCarthy

A 15-year, seasoned veteran of the financial services industry, McCarthy was most recently senior vice president and CIO serving the credit card and retail payments businesses at FIS, the world's largest global provider dedicated to banking and payments technologies. While at FIS, in addition to being responsible for technology architecture, integration and execution, McCarthy advised the executive team on emerging technology and industry trends, with a special focus on new product strategies and revenue opportunities.

Prior to that role at FIS, McCarthy held senior positions in information technology and business management—including chief information officer—with NYCE Payments Network, which provides consumers with secure, real-time access to their money, offering hundreds of thousands of ATM locations and millions of point-of-sale locations nationwide.

McCarthy studied computer programming at the Institute of Computer Science, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Bellevue University, as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from Benedictine University.
