San Jose, Calif., Dec. 20, 2011 -- Brighton Collectibles founder and president Jerry Kohl has a clear vision of customer engagement in his stores, and it doesn’t involve sales associates tethered to a cash register behind a counter. Instead, he’s opted to bring the checkout to shoppers anywhere in the store, using GlobalBay Mobile POS (mPOS) from VeriFone Systems, Inc. (NYSE: PAY).
VeriFone announced today that GlobalBay’s mPOS is now deployed nationwide to speed sales of the Brighton Collectibles coordinated accessories at more than 150 company-owned locations. More than 300 iPod Touch systems equipped with credit card readers are being utilized to ensure sales associates are able to quickly engage and satisfy customer purchase needs, rather than asking them to wait in line at the cash register.
“We wanted to get out from behind the counter and get in front of the customer,” Kohl says of the rationale for selecting the GlobalBay mPOS solution. “When a customer sees something they like, we want to engage with them right there. It makes the transaction a lot easier and saves time. That also makes it easier for shoppers to justify a return visit.”
VeriFone’s GlobalBay Apps improve the interaction between store associates and the consumer while enhancing the overall in-store selling experience. Store associates are empowered to work with the customers as they are shopping throughout the store, reducing the risk that a shopper will grow frustrated by waiting in line and abandon the purchase process.
“Today’s savvy shoppers are increasingly experienced with mobile technologies and accustomed to instant execution of online sales, so they naturally expect to see similar progress when making purchases in-store,” said Sandeep Bhanote, VeriFone vice president and general manager of the Mobile Retail Systems business. “Brighton Collectibles is using GlobalBay mPOS to heighten the level of engagement between customers and store associates, leading to increased sales and greater efficiency of operations.”
At Brighton Collectibles, GlobalBay mPOS is integrated to KWI POS software from KWI – which was key to deployment. In addition, Brighton is considering how to reduce the number of fixed cash registers, which will reduce costs and open up valuable selling space.
VeriFone’s award-winning GlobalBay mobile platform leverages retailers’ existing POS, e-commerce, and store systems. It enables a suite of next-generation mobile retail software to retailer-to-consumer interaction.
