Star Micronics partners with Elo on compact POS system

Wednesday, March 01, 2017 — 11:52:39 (EST)

High Wycombe, U.K., March 1, 2017 -- International POS printer manufacturer Star Micronics announces that it has partnered with Elo, the global supplier of touchscreen computing solutions, to offer a new compact countertop solution that aesthetically matches the stylish design of the new market trend for tablet POS with the higher performance of an enterprise-grade Windows or Android POS system. Elo’s popular and agile I-Series offers all the flexibility of using the latest in connectivity with either traditional POS with Windows or using the latest in mobile software and economic advantages of the Android version.

Elo’s I-Series POS system, the tablet-like touchscreen is available in 10-inch and 15-inch Android OS versions or 15-inch Windows OS version. The I-Series POS system features an innovative flip-screen / printer stand which has been designed to house Star’s TSP100 Series and TSP654II Series of Bluetooth, LAN, USB & Cloud (LAN & Remote) printers alongside options such as a 2D barcode scanner and EMV cradle. It was logical for Elo to choose Star as a key partner in such a venture given that Star is recognised globally as a leading provider of innovative mPOS and POS printing solutions for retailers of all sizes from world-renowned retailers McDonald’s and Harrods to your local corner store. Star’s extensive range of products is also available at the Apple Store.

Elo’s compact printer / computer stand encompasses a small countertop footprint, just slightly larger than the dimensions of the 142 x 204mm Star printers, providing the retailer with a large display and increased countertop space. The touchscreen tablet can quickly ‘flip’ to customer-facing self-service ordering / customer display while the printer and EMV cradle may be placed facing the salesperson or the customer depending on the application.

Ideal for retail and hospitality, the printer stand seamlessly converts the POS station into a cost-effective customer-facing kiosk with signature capture, upsell and digital promotion capability. With an enterprise-grade POS system, retailers are able to use remote content provisioning and device management with a centralised web portal. Elo’s cloud-based management software, EloView®, can lock down the Android operating system for complete data security and OS version control.

Annette Tarlton, Star Micronics EMEA’s Marketing Director, states: “The success of this new partnership between Elo and Star reflects the need for retailers to match the stylish and space-saving advantages of the new tablet POS market trend with the connectivity and performance demands of larger-scale retailers.”
