First Data named a top employer for military veterans

Monday, April 20, 2015 — 11:52:37 (EDT)

Atlanta, April 17, 2015 -- First Data Corporation, the global leader in payment technology and services solutions, has earned the distinction from Military Times as one of the best employers for veterans on the “Best for Vets: Employers 2015” list. The rankings were based on veteran employee on-boarding, company training, Guard and Reserve member policies, and military spouse support, among other considerations. First Data was featured among the Top 20 of the nearly 80 firms on the list.

“We are honored to be recognized for our deep cultural commitment to military veterans and spouses,” said Vivian Greentree, Senior Vice President, Military and Veterans Affairs. “At First Data, we recognize that veterans bring unique experiences and distinct skill sets to any business, and we will continue to work hard every day to support our veterans and military families as they build successful careers at our company.”

Through First Data Salutes – an initiative to embrace the military community by focusing on hiring and retaining veterans and military spouses – the company has broadly reimagined the recruitment and employee experience, resulting in an increase of hires among veterans and military spouses from 2% to 13% within the past year. First Data has also created an affinity group to support military-affiliated employees and supports several national coalitions striving to increase recruiting from this premier talent pool.

The recognition by Military Times is only one of many notable hallmarks of First Data’s engagement with the military community in the last year.

In 2014, First Data Chairman and CEO Frank Bisignano was honored to receive the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring our Heroes Leadership Award for Individual Excellence in Veteran Employment. The award recognized the dedication of Bisignano and First Data in helping veterans and military spouses secure employment.

In 2015, building on its sponsoring the Entrepreneurs Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities, First Data announced a $7 million partnership with the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University that will help veterans and their families launch businesses and find employment opportunities while transitioning to civilian life. This initiative is part of First Data’s global commitment to helping its clients grow their businesses.
