Emerging Payment Awards deadline approaching

U.K., April 16, 2014 --

Emerging Payment Awards (Incorporating Prepaid Awards) Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014 Lancaster, London

GET YOUR ENTRIES IN: ONLY TWO WEEKS TO GO!

The deadline is fast approaching so make sure you enter by May 2. And to improve your chances of success, we've come up with some hints to help you write a winning entry:

Read the criteria carefully, stick to the brief and answer all the questions. It might not mean that you win, but it will ensure you don't lose unnecessarily. Use the headings given to create your entry - don't make up your own. And if the criteria asks for products that have proved themselves, don't talk about those that have only been around for a couple of months. There may be a different award category that is better suited to that product. Assume that the judges aren't familiar with the market or product. Their judgement is made purely on the basis of the submission, not on their personal knowledge. Write a great summary in as few words as possible. Write like a journalist, summarising the whole story in the first sentence, and just expand on it in following paragraphs. Support your argument with clear and credible data. Many criteria ask for metrics, so make sure you include them, using data from a credible source and quoting the source where possible. Avoid vague statements such as 'the programme achieved its goals'. Be specific, concise and give clear examples. No-one likes having to wade through masses of data that they don't understand. Include things that bring you entry to life (photographs, marketing materials etc). If you've developed some great collateral, use it in the submission, alongside your answers to the questions. Write in plain English and avoid confusion. A lot of payments terminology is incomprehensible to the layman. Assume that your submission might be judged by people that know the payments sector but may not be expert in your particular area. Focus your submission around your USP. So if its more convenient for the customer, make sure you demonstrate why and how. If it's cheaper, show why and how, and so on. And stick to the point - don't promise one thing and deliver another. Be honest - don't over-claim. You are pitching to people who will have made and received many pitches themselves and are naturally sceptical. Your product doesn't need to have changed the world to win, it just needs to meet the criteria. Ask yourself difficult questions and practice internally first. Find a couple of colleagues who aren't familiar with the case study and use them as a sounding board. Encourage them to ask difficult questions such as, 'what evidence do you have to support that claim?' and 'what makes this different from xxx's product that's been available for several years?'

Decide which of the categories are applicable to you, download the Call for Entries brochure, read the entry criteria and get writing. Finalists will be announced in July, with winners being revealed and celebrated on 23 October 2014 during our customary lavish ceremony at the Lancaster London. Good luck! The list of categories is:
