Letter from the editors

By the time you read this, the midterm elections in the United States will be over, and votes will have been tabulated for contests that have seen an unprecedented amount of participation on the part of the electorate. No matter how power shifts, or not, the impact on our economy is something even vetted experts won't be able to foresee. Meanwhile, commerce will continue to respond to a variety of forces at home and abroad.

The economy is the subject of this issue's lead article, the second in a two-part series in which members of The Green Sheet Advisory Board share their experiences and tips on how to take advantage of the economy's current strength while also preparing for fluctuations to come. The first portion of their insights was published in our Oct. 22, 2018, issue. We greatly appreciate them for enabling us to bring you this series. They are exemplary industry leaders.

Our ability in the payments industry to work together to achieve things that were only ideas a short time ago is also exemplary. This collegial environment amid breathtaking transformation is on display at industry tradeshows. We report herein on two that were held recently in Las Vegas: Money 20/20 and the NAC convention.

While people enter the payments industry to earn a living commensurate to the amount of effort they put in, a strong thread running through our midst is the desire to give back. Issue after issue, our contributing writers do just that. Their latest contributions share conclusions drawn after testing numerous types of advertising, marketing basics for today's payments pros, skills required for successful entrepreneurship, and key trends identified in the Federal Reserve Board's newest report derived from the Federal Reserve Payments Study.

In profiles, you'll learn about a company with a single, multifunctional platform for secure accounts receivable management; an end-to-end restaurant solution devised to drive efficiencies and customer engagement; and a full-featured solution for the growing unattended market. In addition to updates on industry, company and individual career milestones, you'll also find herein news on Apple Pay's lead in mobile wallets, innovation in the c-store realm, Visa's bulletin on cash discounting, balancing fraud fighting and customer friction, the growth of digital payments worldwide, and much more.

Thank you for your ongoing interest and support. We will continue to welcome your press releases at press@greensheet.com and your feedback at greensheet@greensheet.com. end of article
