Getting started as a contributing writer

I see that you publish articles by contributing writers from various areas of payments. I work with several industry experts in the payments space that might be a good fit. Can you please explain the process?

Jordana Wolf,GK PR

Jordana,

Thanks for getting in touch. Typically, an industry expert will reach out to me (Laura McHale Holland, Assistant Vice President, Editorial) or vice versa. Along with providing name, company name and email address, the writer tells me what area(s) of payments he or she initially wants to cover. This provides a starting focus and can change over time.

I then prepare a writer's agreement. It sets forth the particulars of writing for us, a few of which are:

  • Contributing writers are not paid. They provide content to aid in The Green Sheet's mission to be an educational vehicle and professional resource for the industry's feet on the street. We provide a platform that offers significant visibility within the payments sphere.
  • I do not assign articles to contributing writers, but I am happy to brainstorm if a writer wants to do so.
  • Writers are not required to submit a particular number of articles within a given period; however, most find regular submissions offer the best visibility. Monthly, every other month and quarterly contributions are common choices. One-time submissions are also OK.

Sometimes marketing and PR professionals, such as yourself, will reach out on behalf of a writer, in which case, I work through the representative in establishing the working relationship. I look forward to hearing from you. If you have further questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
