You can aid parity in payments

When I read Lisa Shipley's commentary about Parity for Women in Payments [Readers Speak, The Green Sheet, July 14, 2014, issue 14:07:01], I was quite surprised. With the 21st century well under way, I had assumed men and women were finally on an equal playing field salary and opportunity wise.   To achieve parity in any company, I believe that it's something that has to come from the top. Chief executive officers need to make parity a mandate and embed it in the culture of the firm. Additionally, women need to be given the same opportunities as men for further education, promotions, etc.   Organizations like W.Net are more than just a large group of women professionals networking. They provide a knowledge base, opportunity to learn, as well as an open forum to share experiences, best practices and industry trends. Some of its members not only hold top jobs in the industry, but also are willing to share and mentor other members. This is something that benefits every firm in the payments space.   My firm, although on the smaller side, has been a corporate supporter of W.Net for these reasons, and I would encourage firms of all sizes to see how they could make an impact, either by membership or sponsorship.   Reed Clayton Recombo

Farewell to Terry Maher

Partners of Terrence Patrick Maher at the law firm of Baird Holm LLP informed us that he passed away in August 2014. Maher served as General Counsel for the Network Branded Prepaid Card Association. "Terry was an intelligent and witty man who lit up every room he entered; he always had an interesting story to tell about his constant travels," his colleagues stated. We offer condolences to his family and friends at this time of sorrow.
