Spring into action before the holidays

Summer 2013 isn't officially over until Sept. 21, but since students are now cracking the books and colleagues are back at work, sharing vacation pictures via smartphones, most folks are in an autumn frame of mind. With that, the desire to make the most of what remains of the year comes to the fore.

As ISOs and merchant level salespeople (MLSs), you know most retailers are approaching their busiest season. Now is the ideal time to reassess and revamp your sales and customer service efforts.

It could be that you've had a bang-up year so far and are set to meet or exceed your goals in the next few months, or it could be that your results have been disappointing. No matter. Whatever your situation is, thinking of the coming quarter as a brand new opportunity to shine can have an immensely positive effect on your fortunes. Why not approach the final months of the year as a "mini new year" all its own?

This can provide a manageable time frame in which to decide which goals are most important, determine what actions to take and minimize procrastination by becoming more proactive.

So what will get your business where you want it to be by Jan. 1, 2014? Is it an initiative or new product that will make the holiday season easier and more profitable for your merchants? How about mentoring to help MLSs reach their sales goals? Go ahead. View your business with fresh eyes. Get excited. Expect results. This will greatly improve the odds you'll be smiling when you sing Auld Lang Syne.
