Enhanced POS solutions with antimicrobial protection

Product: Lane/7000 AM
Company: Ingenico Group

Ingenico Group, a global payment solutions provider, enhanced its Lane/7000 and Moby/M70 devices to provide cleaner surfaces in waiting rooms, checkout counters, pharmacies and other high-traffic areas where the POS devices are deployed. The customer-facing Lane/7000 AM and handheld Moby/M70 are injected at the factory with EPA-registered chemical additives to protect consumer health and extend equipment life cycles, the company stated.

The Ingenico devices meet guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control for preventing healthcare-associated infections from spreading, noted Irfan Nasir, head of solutions development and deployment at Ingenico Group. "In healthcare facilities, doctors, nurses and staffers constantly take precautions like wearing protective clothing and using sterile tools to protect patients," he said. "The same level of care should be given to make waiting rooms and checkout areas safe for patients."

Mark Bunney, director of go-to-market strategy at Ingenico, pointed out that healthcare facilities frequently use harsh chemicals to clean traditional POS devices, which can cause device plastics to break down. Ingenico's antimicrobial devices do not require this type of treatment and consequently have longer life cycles. These product protection capabilities also enhance the overall check-in and checkout experience, he stated.

High tech for high-touch environments

Consumer environments are changing, Bunney noted. Growing adoption of tablet POS, touchscreen and smartphone payments solutions means people are touching things more, and companies are taking different approaches to maintaining clean workplaces and high-contact surfaces. By limiting the spread of microbes, Ingenico solutions can protect a variety of public venues, he added.

J Brian Merena, executive vice president at Tempus Technologies, agreed merchant environments and healthcare facilities can expose consumers to bacterial infections. "The check-in and checkout environments are certainly not immune to these risks, but this can be avoided," he stated. "It's become more and more important we work with an innovative payments partner like Ingenico to bring solutions with antimicrobial product protection to these settings for our customers to inhibit the growth of microbes on common touch surfaces."

Ingenico's distribution partners can deploy solutions with antimicrobial product protection across numerous vertical industries, including retail, hospitality, and food and beverage merchants, Bunney noted. Ingenico's AM line is designed to facilitate enterprise and SMB requirements, as follows:

  • Lane/7000 AM smart terminal: The PCI PTS 5.x certified Lane/7000 AM uses future-proofed encryption and anti-theft systems, such as Kensington locks, for further protection. The customer-facing POS device has a large multimedia screen with antimicrobial additives to inhibit growth of microbes and a large, easy-to-read display. Its Telium TETRA operating system combines payments with web-based design and elliptical curve security technology to protect transaction data.
  • Moby/M70 AM Tablet POS solution: The Moby/M70 AM's open Android OS helps ISVs and developers get to market quickly and distribute apps through the Google Play Store and other app marketplaces. SDKs simplify hardware and gateway integration, making it easy to develop customized apps. Certified by leading U.S. payment processors, the tablet POS solution accepts EMV, magstripe, and NFC/contactless payment types.

Mobility remains a top concern for merchants; having stationary and portable solutions will help Ingenico's antimicrobial solutions fit numerous merchant environments, Bunney stated. "We will make these solutions available to our entire partner ecosystem, enabling all industries, from food service providers to retail merchants, enhance the check-in and checkout experience," he said.
