Prepaid calling card lawsuit settled

As part of a settlement of a class-action lawsuit against calling card provider NobelTel Inc. and its affiliates, the defendants will provide 400,000 $5 calling card "settlement PINs" to affected consumers. The PINs can be used by consumers allegedly defrauded by the calling card companies to make domestic and international calls that originate in California, according to the law firms Lee Tran & Liang APLC and Ziaee Law.

The lawsuit claims that Nobel, Nobel Ltd., NobelCom LLC and NobelTel LLC violated California consumer protection laws by not sufficiently informing consumers about the rates and charges on the defendants' prepaid calling cards and services, and then failing to deliver the call minutes advertised. The defendants reportedly deny wrongdoing.

The law firms are reaching out to consumers who may have purchased the defendants' products between April, 8, 2006, and May 24, 2012. The Los Angeles Superior Court will hold a final hearing on Sept. 13, 2012, to consider whether to approve the settlement. end of article
