Skycore pilots NFC-embedded wristband initiative

Near field communication (NFC) technology application developer Skycore LLC entered a pilot that utilizes its codeREADr app for smart phones along with wristbands embedded with NFC technology. Android smart-phone users wearing the wristbands can reload the value on the wristbands via the mobile app.

The pilot involves Baltimore-based ticketing service provider MissionTix.com LLC, which offers the wristbands online. The wristbands allow users to attend multiple events by the same venue, or participating venues, without having to be issued new tickets.

Users tap smart phones on the wristbands. The codeREADr app on the smart phone communicates with the NFC chip in the wristband to read transaction data on the chip. The app then validates the data in real-time against a database typically maintained by a ticketing company.

Rich Eicher, Chief Executive Officer at Skycore, said MissionTix is the first company to deploy Skycore's One ID platform that allows ticketing companies to track and validate the NFC accounts on the wristbands. Skycore touted the security of its NFC solution, saying, "The embedded data cannot be forged or rewritten, making codeREADr's NFC solution especially secure for ticketing and stored-value transactions." end of article
