Short takes on payments

Here are few news items that have captured our attention recently.

ABA payment task force formed

A Payment Systems Task Force was formed by the American Bankers Association. The task force's assignment is to develop strategies for "a strong, safe and efficient payments market."

"The task force will work to ensure new payment technologies promote competitive access for and participation by banks of all sizes and charters," the ABA said in a press release, The task force is chaired by ABA Vice Chairman Jeff L. Plagge, President of Northwest Financial Corp in Arnolds Park, Iowa. He will be joined by eight other banking executives on the task force.

VeriFone bringing lottery payments to taxis, gas stations

VeriFone Inc. stated it will process lottery ticket sales through POS systems in taxis, at fuel dispensers and at other locations. Consumers will be able to use an interactive screen to select a lottery purchase, swipe or tap a debit card, and get receipts from integrated printers. VeriFone is partnering with Linq3, a lottery solutions provider, to create a nationwide network to process lottery transactions in all 44 states offering lotteries.

AmEx introduces Facebook app

American Express Co. released a Facebook app for its Serve digital wallet. The new application allows customers to send, receive and request money through the Facebook platform. The application, which works very much like a PayPal Inc. app released late last year, allows money transfers among Facebook "friends." end of article
