Golf tourney to help soldiers with calling cards

At the Tiger Woods hosted AT&T National golf tournament held at the Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa., telecommunication provider AT&T is providing military personnel with free prepaid calling cards. During the tournament, which begins with practice rounds June 28 and runs through the final round on July 3, AT&T will contribute 10,000 prepaid calling cards as part of care packages to be assembled in a tent on tournament grounds.

AT&T expects professional golfers and golf fans to participate in preparing the care packages to be shipped to U.S. soldiers serving around the world. Additionally, AT&T is providing an air-conditioned clubhouse and multiple Wi-Fi-enabled areas to spur donations to local Philadelphia-area charities, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia and The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, as well as the Tiger Woods Foundation in Washington, D.C.

"To date, this event has raised nearly $10 million for youth-based organizations," said Jason Simpson, Assistant Vice President, AT&T Corporate Sponsorships. "We're excited to continue our support of these organizations and honor the men and women of our Armed Forces this weekend and throughout the year." This is the second year in a row that AT&T has sponsored the golf tournament. end of article
