NEAA heads south for new event

Looking to serve a wider market, the Northeast Acquirers Association will hold its one-day Summer Seminar and Outing at the Turf Valley Resort and Golf Course in Ellicott City, Md., June 15, 2011. The program will include presentations by industry experts and exhibits by vendors along with prizes and giveaways.

Maryland is a little bit outside the normal NEAA territory of Pennsylvania to Maine, but NEAA Treasurer Jacques Breton said it is time to open up his organization to a wider audience.

A new locale

"Last year we [looked back] after the summer show and decided to try bringing our event further south," Breton remarked before the conference. "It is a market where we believe there is tremendous opportunity. This is a pilot program, just a one-day event, to see what kind of response we get."

Breton said Turf Valley has special rates for conference attendees, and golf will be available for those who attend. But reservations must be made, as the hotel will extend its special rates for attendees only to through June 4. "We are cutting out a lot of the extras to try to make this economical for attendees and vendors," Breton said.

A substantive agenda

Breton added the main topic of speakers will be legislative updates about "swipe fees and other [things] nobody understands."

Street Savings Chief Operating Officer Pal Flagg will speak about the rewards and risks of mobile marketing at the conference. "I've given this talk at every regional meeting except NEAA," Flagg said. "It's about time we got there.

"I'll also be talking about risks for agents who get involved with the wrong vendors who don't follow the rules. I've given this talk a number of times, and I always include a couple of slides on the risks and the rules that need to be followed. There are a lot of cowboys out there, and we need to educate people about them any way we can." end of article
