Payments industry remembers Derek Vowels

The Green Sheet joins the Southeast Acquirers Association in remembering payments industry veteran Derek Vowels for his team spirit, humor, boundless enthusiasm and numerous contributions to our industry. We appreciate the outpouring of remembrance and support during this difficult time.

Danielle Thorpe, former assistant vice president of marketing and media partnerships for The Green Sheet, mentioned that Derek had helped her navigate the vast payments ecosystem when she was new to the industry.

“I feel very blessed and fortunate to have met Derek when I was so new to the industry,” she said. “We first met at a tradeshow and from that moment on, we were just connected.”

Thorpe also recalled his many funny sayings, noting that she and Kate Gillespie, CEO at The Green Sheet, memorialized some of them on a bracelet made especially for him.

In advance of an official statement, SEAA members noted that Derek served at the association for 16 years, joining the Advisory Committee in 2007 and Board of Directors in 2013.

“We are very grateful for all the calls and messages we have received and appreciate how much of an impact Derek had on so many,” SEAA representatives wrote. “SEAA will release a longer statement in the near future, but wanted to take a moment to share the news of our friend’s passing and thank all of you for your support during this difficult time.”
