CFSI launches SmallBizDev Hackathons

To help small businesses compete in the increasingly complex world of commerce, the Center for Financial Services Innovation is challenging mobile app developers to design small business-focused apps. Through SmallBizDev Hackathons, CFSI and its partner, the Doorways to Dreams Fund, will award $15,000 to app developers and offer the chance for winners to demo apps in front of technology and financial service experts.

CFSI said small business owners in the United States, which total 23 million, are facing significant financial challenges, which can be offset by mobile technology. "As mobile technology expands and the use of mobile devices across all consumer segments grows, we see increasing opportunities to develop innovative solutions to small business owners' financial challenges," stated the Chicago-based financial services innovation enabler.

CFSI and D2D will host 2014 SmallBizDev Hackathons in San Francisco, Chicago and New York in June, July and September, respectively. At the two-day events, app designers, developers, entrepreneurs and innovators will be tasked with building mobile apps for small businesses. At each hackathon, a $10,000 grand prize will be awarded, along with two $5,000 runner-up prizes.
