Payments industry Inc. 500/5000 winners

Nashville, Tenn.-based Value Payment Systems LLC earned the top spot among 44 payments industry companies named to the 2013 Inc. 500/5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in the United States. Rankings were determined based on percentage of revenue growth from 2009 to 2012. Capturing the No. 7 position on the Inc. 500 list, VPS posted three-year sales growth of 17,404 percent and generated $25.5 million in 2012 revenue.

"We are very honored by the market response we have experienced from the hard work accomplished by our employees," said Scott Slusser, Chief Marketing Officer at VPS. "Our founding mission, we thought, was very simple: to drive electronic payment adoption through innovative and responsive payment and technology value. And hence the company name. We could not be more pleased and look to do more."

Other companies that made the Inc. 500 list were iSend (73) with 4,441 percent growth; BlueSquare Resolutions (101) 3,458 percent; CashStar Inc. (103) 3,414 percent; TouchSuite (105) 3,338 percent; Recondo Technology (179) 2,261 percent; Advocate Merchant Solutions Inc. (190) 2,178 percent; Complete Merchant Solutions (341) 1,271 percent; Century Payments Inc. (360) 1,218 percent; Securus Payments (372) 1,184 percent; and RePay-Realtime Electronic Payments) (440) with 1,040 percent growth.

Rounding out the Inc. 5000 in order, starting with the highest ranked, were BlueFin Payment Systems, Merchant Industry LLC, Elite Merchant Solutions, Payoneer, Clearent LLC, PayLease, Sphyra, Total Apps Inc., AffiniPay, Alpine Payment Systems, Xoom Corp., Reliance Star Payment Services Inc., Gravity Payments, Mercury Payment Systems, Unified Payments, Infintech-Innovative Financial Technologies LLC, Payscape Advisors, P-Fleet, Central Payment, Yapstone Inc., G2Web Services, Blackhawk Network Holdings Inc., Faith Direct Inc., Security Credit Services LLC, Point & Pay LLC, Omega Processing Solutions, Security Card Services, SignaPay Ltd., USA ePay, Alpha Card Services, Payment Alliance International, PayPros, and Velocity Merchant Services.

Notable repeats, rise of prepaid

As evidence of continued strength within the payments industry, many companies selected were repeat winners. For example, Alpha Card Services landed on the list for the seventh consecutive year. "We believe our continued organic growth can be attributed to a diverse and relevant merchant product portfolio, leading edge payments technology, aggressive sales and marketing strategies, and the collective efforts of the dynamic Alpha Card team, including our nearly 600 independent sales offices," said Lazaros Kalemis, Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Card.

Another repeat winner was Clearent. "We’re thrilled to be listed on the Inc. 5000 again this year," said Clearent CEO Dan Geraty. "It’s quite a challenge for the entire company to sustain such rapid growth over time, as I’m sure other companies on the Inc. 5000 would agree. I’m extremely proud of the effort and focus of our team to continue our growth again this year."

The prepaid and money transfer segment also posted positive gains in the overall rankings. Top performers culled from the list of 44 to watch included iSend, CashStar Inc., Payoneer, Xoom Corp. and Blackhawk Network Holdings Inc.
