Scottsdale, Ariz., May 3, 2016 – Equinox Payments (“Equinox”), a leading provider of payment terminals, applications and support services, today announced that its Voyager Lodging application running on the Equinox Apollo terminal has been certified by TSYS, making it the first major EMV-certified stand-alone lodging solution available in the US. Hotel owners can now accept the latest technology and avoid costly chargebacks related to the EMV liability shift.
Unlike simple retail and restaurant applications running on traditional payment terminals, lodging solutions require extra functions to manage a folio and track charges throughout a guest’s experience: from reservation deposits, to check-in, onsite property charges and post check-out adjustments. And while integrated property management systems connected to processors via gateway middleware are common for most large hotel chains, stand-alone terminal-based solutions are crucial for the operators of boutique hotels, inns and B&Bs.
“We’re excited to be on the leading edge of companies to step up and launch a lodging application that helps this important and underserved segment of the market,” said Rob Hayhow, vice president, Equinox. “Chargebacks related to the EMV liability shift can really add up, so offering an affordable EMV-certified lodging solution is sure to be a game changer for resellers targeting this space.”
ISOs can immediately take advantage of the TSYS Class-B terminal certification while Equinox works through the certification queues from many of the leading acquirers.
“We are ready to jump on this opportunity and market to this attractive industry segment,” said Joe Hickey, president, Process Point. “The Apollo lodging solution meets the needs of thousands of hotel owners currently running their businesses using legacy terminals, which typically do not have the ability to upgrade to the latest EMV and contactless technology.”
The Voyager payment application running on Apollo terminals has been developed to support a full host of important features that are unique to the lodging sector. The solution supports check-in/check-out functions plus the ability to add incremental charges to a folio related to dining, gift shop purchases, spa services, and the like. Both pre- and post-stay charge and refund transactions can be processed for functions such as deposits, no shows and minibar purchases. The Apollo AIO terminal is an all-in-one countertop device that supports magnetic stripe, EMV and contactless payments in stand-alone and semi-integrated configurations. An integrated PIN pad, printer and full-color signature capture touchscreen display eliminate the need for extra peripherals and cables. It meets the latest PCI security standards and supports a choice of point-to-point encryption technologies to protect cardholder data.
