Element Payment Services TriPOS earns PA-DSS validation

Wednesday, February 13, 2013 — 12:00:57 (EST)

Chandler, Ariz., Feb. 13, 2013 -- Element Payment Services, a leader in PCI compliant payment processing solutions, announces that its TriPOS™ payment application has been validated to comply with the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) by leading Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) SecurityMetrics. TriPOS™ provides Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) with an easy and simple way to support Canadian Chip & PIN through the Element Express Processing Platform.

TriPOS™ is designed to act as a middleware between an ISV’s business management application, the Chip & PIN (EMV) terminal device, and the Element Express Processing Platform. This design, coupled with PA-DSS validation, allows ISVs to easily and securely incorporate support for Canadian Chip & PIN (EMV) transactions while removing the complexity associated with driving and certifying Chip & PIN-enabled hardware devices. “TriPOS™ allows ISVs to offer customers an EMV-certified solution without taking on the burden of achieving and maintaining EMV certification and PA-DSS compliance, eliminating development efforts and other associated cost,” says Sean Kramer, president and CEO at Element.

ISVs looking to extend their reach or expand their footprint in the Canadian market can do so by implementing TriPOS™. Because TriPOS™ offers an extremely simple interface to a traditionally lengthy integration process, ISVs benefit from speed-to-market; reduced development and certification cost and an out-of-scope processing solution for EMV transactions.

In August 2011, Visa announced plans to incentivize Chip & PIN adoption in the United States through three key initiatives:

  • As of October 2012, Visa made its Technology Innovation Program (TIP) available to U.S. merchants, allowing those qualified to bypass annual PCI validation if at least 75% of their Visa transactions were initiated on a Chip-enabled terminal.

  • Beginning April 1, 2013, Visa has mandated that “U.S. acquirer processors and sub-processors” support Chip & PIN transactions.

  • Effective October 2015, Visa will implement a liability shift for fraudulent Chip & PIN card-present transactions, away from the issuers, to the merchant acquirer, if the merchant cannot accept Chip & PIN transactions.

“Element’s Chip & PIN technology developed for Canada will optimally position Element to support EMV in United States,” says Kramer. “With the card brands’ implementation deadline for Chip & PIN support amongst processors beginning in April 2013 and the liability shift on non-Smartcard (EMV) transactions in the U.S. slated for October 2015, Element’s TriPOS™ will give ISVs a simple and quick-to-market EMV solution.”
