NOVA Information Systems, Inc., one of the nationís top electronic payment processing service providers, is using the VeriTalk Enterprise System. You will remember from issue 99:09:01, the Talk Enterprise System and VeriTalk Lite are VeriFoneís open-architecture terminal-management systems. NOVA will be using the Enterprise system to support its more than 480,000 merchants.
NOVA migrated to the Talk Enterprise in anticipation of a jump in its terminal base. If youíve been in the industry a while, you know that when VeriFone created ZonTalk, it was one of the very first terminal management systems, and since most terminals at merchant locations were VeriFone terminals, ZonTalk pretty much became the standard for the industry. As a result, some other terminal manufacturers wrote interfaces to ZonTalk so that processors could get the ZonTalk system to "talk" to their terminals, but this was not always the case. As terminal management systems became more sophisticated, the industry created its own standards for terminal communication. VeriTalk Enterprise is based on the industry standards for terminals that are now firmly established and allows VeriTalk Enterprise to communicate with both VeriFone and non-VeriFone terminals.

"We chose the VeriTalk Enterprise solution because it could handle our rapid growth and offer us the functionality we needed to conduct our business. VeriFone agreed to partner with us and do a custom installation, the largest installation in the world."
With VeriTalk Enterprise, NOVA can perform 64 simultaneous downloads and have multiple, real-time access to the database of terminal information through an open architecture, client/server environment. The majority of NOVAís terminal base is made up of VeriFone terminals, but since VeriTalk Enterprise supports other vendorsí products, NOVA can download competitorsí products that use the same protocol as well.
