First USA
Believes!
Here's a question for
anyone who doesn't believe in Web advertising: If it's such a losing
venture, why did First USA just pay Microsoft $90 million for the
exclusive rights to advertise on the Microsoft
Network?
As you know from the
November 1998 issue of GSQ, First USA Inc., is owned by Bank One
Corporation and is the nation's largest Visa/MasterCard lender. One
might think that a company with more than 60 million cardholders
doesn't need to choose such an unproven territory to solicit
customers, right? Wrong! First USA realizes the power of the Internet
and they are willing to pay $90 million for the exclusive rights to
advertise their cards on the MSN Network (which includes MSNBC and
MSN hotmail) for five years.
Still not sure of the
value of Internet advertising?
